Challenge

A deep challenge of any organization is the waste created by lack of coordination across organizational silos. In lean, teamwork means the individual skill to work across borders.

 

Your challenge is, from the gemba walks, to find problems as opportunities to make people work together across their departmental boundaries. A simple place to start is the weekly level plan meeting.

 

Teamwork is probably one of the less understood keys to lean success and superior performance. To start with identify a leader on a specific issue, ask her or him to work with other functional leaders and support them until they work together to come up with new ways of working - together.
